New police chief named in Laurel
Richard P. McLaughlin has been named chief of the Laurel Police Department, Mayor Craig A. Moe announced Thursday.
McLaughlin, who will replace David Crawford, was serving as acting chief.
McLaughlin's appointment would take effect Dec. 1, pending approval on Nov. 22.
McLaughlin "understands the department's history; and he understands the importance of maintaining and enhancing the department's reputation for high standards, excellent service, and community oriented policing," according to a statement released by Moe's office.
