Man robs Del. church poor box
Wilmington police say a man stole donations for the poor from a priest preparing for Mass at St. Peter's Cathedral.
The robber told an employee opening the church for services Sunday morning he was armed and ordered him to turn over all his money. When the employee showed the robber his empty wallet, the robber ordered him to take him to the alter area.
The Rev. Joseph Cocucci told police he was preparing to celebrate Mass when the robber told him he was armed and demanded money.
Cocucci says he handed over an envelope containing donations to the poor box, but refused to give up his cell phone, saying he needed it for emergencies.
The robber then fled.
