Ex-teacher convicted on child porn charge

A former Fauquier County middle school teacher was convicted Monday of filming himself engaging in sexual activity with a student in his classroom and at his home, prosecutors said.

Scott C. Howe, 34, was found guilty in U.S. District Court in Alexandria of producing child pornography. He faces at least 15 years in prison when he is sentenced June.4.

Prosecutors said Howe, who was a science teacher at Cedar Lee Middle School in Bealeton, used a video camera to film the sexual activity with the male student, who was 14 and 15 at the time. “It’s sickening to think a teacher would take advantage of a student,” said U.S. Attorney Neil H. MacBride. “These are disgusting videos, and they represent the worst nightmares of any parent.’’

He was convicted of "filming himself" performing the acts, or was he convicted of "performing sexual acts [with a student and/or minor?]"?

Albeit completely stupid in this case, I would say filming himself is no crime unless he did so and distributed it, in which case he should have been convicted of excessive stupidity.
