Update, 12:23 p.m.: Two females were found dead in an apartment in the Lorton area of Fairfax County Monday morning, and police were investigating their deaths as a double homicide.
A man appeared at DeWitt Army Community Hospital, on the Fort Belvoir Army base, about 8:24 a.m., police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said. The man admitted himself to the hospital, "claiming he was involved in a tragic event," Caldwell said.
Police went to an apartment in the 9200 block of Cardinal Forest Lane, just off Lorton Road, and found the bodies of a woman and a teenaged girl, Caldwell said. Their identities have not been released, but police believe the two are likely mother and daughter.
Caldwell said there were "no obvious signs of a cause of death." Detectives were awaiting a search warrant before reentering the apartment.
The man who appeared at DeWitt was being questioned by homicide detectives.
Original Post: Fairfax County police found two people dead Monday morning in a Lorton home after officers were asked to check on the welfare of the residents.
Police aren't yet identifing the people, and are providing few other details. Officer Shelley Broderick, a police spokeswoman, said police received a call at 8:24 a.m. from Dewit Army Community Hospital on Fort Belvoir asking that they check on residents of a home in the 9200 block of Cardinal Forest Lane.
Broderick would not say how police believe the people were killed, but said police "believe it's an isolated incident and no threat to public safety." She said investigators and crime scene technicians are at the scene.
