Va. thieves steal car's trunk, leave car behind

Some thieves in the Alexandria section of Fairfax county pulled off an unusual heist, according to this report:

They took the trunk of someone’s car. Fairfax County Police say it is the latest item being grabbed by thieves who leave the car behind but take valuable parts.
The Alexandria neighborhood on Clapham Road is mostly quiet and residents have been able to keep a lid on crime. On Tuesday morning, as Carley Dyer walked to her car, she got a rude awakening.
"I came around to the back of the trunk and I noticed the whole trunk piece was missing," said Dyer.
In fact, she did a double take as she got a closer look. Yep, the trunk was indeed gone.

The bigger question is why.

They are talking about the trunk lid.

I am sure a Honda owner self-installed a spoiler on his car and it rusted where he drilled the holes. So now he needs a new lid.

Car parts are stolen all the time. Doors, Dashes, Air Bags, Seats...

We all pay for it when our insurance premiums go up due to the claimed loss.

I saw it on TV and the trunk lid was stolen. The most valuable car to a thief is an old Honda Civic. The thugs steal the cars for parts. After two attempted thefts, I sold my Civic because it was such a hot target.
