Naked firefighter disciplined

A District firefighter who was photographed cooking eggs while naked in the Columbia Heights firehouse following a July retirement event for a fellow firefighter has been place on leave while an internal affairs investigation continues, department spokesman Pete Piringer said Tuesday. The firefighter cannot come to work but can draw on his paid annual leave while under review, Piringer said.

The cooking occurred in a common area of the firehouse in the 3400 block of 14th Street NW, Piringer said. The firefighter was among a group that returned to the firehouse off duty to cook after the retirement celebration, Piringer said. The investigation has not found evidence that alcohol was present at the firehouse, he said.

A District firefighter who was photographed cooking eggs while naked in the Columbia Heights firehouse following a July retirement event for a fellow firefighter has been place on leave while an internal affairs investigation continues, department spokesman Pete Piringer said Tuesday.

The incident was first publicized by WRC Channel 4 News. In an interview Tuesday with WTOP radio, Fire Chief Dennis Rubin was quoted as saying the firefighter was one of several who returned to the firehouse for a late night breakfast after the retirement celebration but that the investigation had not found evidence of alcohol being at the firehouse nor any women in attendance during the cooking.

THere was a day not that long ago when this story would make the FF a legend. A story that would be retold and laughed at for ages. But now we live in a less tolerant world.

Not an issue, why the internal investigation. They are all men and seen each other naked. No big deal why make it one?

I have no idea what the rules in a D.C. firehouse are, but is there an issue with cooking eggs?

"Naked firefighter disciplined"

the headline sounds like the plot of a pornographic film.

As for the actual incident, big fuss over nothing. we all have genitalia (well maybe almost all of us) so get over it.

IS he being paid and accruing benefits while on leave?- If so, I have a big problem with this FF getting what is essentially a paid vacation for misconduct.

Leave the firemen alone. They risk their lives on a daily basis. Maybe the women firefighters can cook naked too. As a safety measure, I hope he was not cooking bacon or spam--the splatter can be hot and dangerous to exposed skin. Jim the fire dog

"The cooking occurred in a common area of the firehouse"

Twice the article refers to "the cooking" as if cooking is illegal.

Though sometimes I think my wife thinks it is illegal.

since when is the fire house considered a private residence? it's a public place for public employees to work out of and serve the public. The only place you should be naked in a fire house is while you are taking a shower!

Who complained? Who did it hurt?

I wonder if he'd done it before and been asked not to? Were there female firefighters on duty? Is this a common practice?
