Deadly standoff in Frederick Co.

A woman is dead in Libertytown after a 4 1/2-hour standoff, the Maryland State Police say.

First Sgt. David Kitzinger told The Frederick News-Post that the unidentified woman suffered two wounds.

He says police responded at about 1 a.m. Thursday to a report of a domestic disturbance in an apartment near the junction of state routes 26 and 75 in the center of the rural Frederick County town.

The newspaper reports that officers in an armored vehicle fired what appeared to be tear gas canisters through a window of the residence and then entered the building.
