Frederick Co. woman charged in attack on pregnant woman in Montgomery
Montgomery County police say a Frederick County woman is accused of attacking a pregnant woman in her home near Damascus.
Police say 38-year-old Christine Renee Devaux, of Monrovia, was arrested late Friday night at a Frederick motel.
Police say the unidentified victim was attacked after arriving home Friday afternoon, but escaped and sought help from a neighbor despite suffering serious injuries. Police say she was treated and released from a hospital and her unborn child was not harmed.
Police say Devaux faces attempted first-degree murder and other charges.
Devaux was originally identified in media reports as a scientist employed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Gaithersburg. NIST spokesman Ben Stein said Sunday that a scientist by the same name had previously worked at the institute, but is not currently there.
