Frederick police seek man who led high-speed chase

Frederick police are looking for a 27-year-old man who they say led officers on a high-speed chase and crashed into another car, injuring the driver.

Police say Chad Wayne Abshire failed to pull over for a traffic stop Thursday evening and then accelerated to 80 miles per hour as he drove away from police.

Officers followed, but soon stopped the pursuit because of safety concerns. Right after the chase was called off, police say Abshire was trying to pass other cars when he struck another vehicle nearly head-on. The other driver suffered minor injuries. Both vehicles had significant damage, but police say Abshire kept driving his 2006 Kia Rio.

An arrest warrant has been issued, and Abshire is charged with fleeing and eluding, driving with a suspended license and failure to stop at the scene of an accident.
