Va. man indicted in Metro bomb threat
A federal grand jury indicted a 25-year-old Arlington man Wednesday on charges that he threatened to bomb a Metro train during conversations he had on Facebook.
Awais Younis was arrested in November after allegedly making the threats during online chats with another Facebook user who lives in Louisiana.
According to the indictment in U.S. District Court in Alexandria, Younis talked about an attack against Metrorail and made menacing statements about his correspondent's father, who lives in the Washington area and uses Metro. Younis warned, "tell your father to cancel work tomorrow."
Court documents do not indicate that Younis, also known as Mohhanme Khan and Sundullah Ghilzai, acted on threats he made to bomb Metro cars. Officials said he was monitored closely and there was no danger.
Younis was indicted on a charge of interstate threatening communication, which carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison.
