Court date set for Jack Johnson
Former Prince George's County Executive Jack Bruce Johnson is set to appear in court March 15 for an arraignment on bribery charges.
The hearing would mark the first time Johnson, 61, has appeared in court since he was indicted Feb. 14. Federal officials allege that Johnson was shaking down developers and business owners during nearly all his eight years in office.
A 31-page indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Greenbelt alleges that Johnson traded business permits, millions in grant funding and other favors for airline tickets, rounds of golf and about $200,000 in cash.
In a statement released after the indictment, Johnson said he would address the charges in court. His lawyer, Billy Martin, said in a statement that the indictment "seriously mischaracterizes" Johnson's tenure and that his client will continue to fight the government's allegations.
