Evaluation requested for Va. suspect

The lawyer for a Virginia woman charged in the death of her 2-year-old son wants his client evaluated by a psychologist.

Court-appointed lawyer Tommy Strelka says extensive abuse by Morgan Elizabeth Ward Lockett's husband may have left her unable to form the intent to kill Aveion Lewis last January.

Strelka asked for money to hire a psychologist Wednesday in Roanoke Circuit Court.

Lockett and her husband Brandon R'eal Lockett Sr. are charged with murder, felony homicide, child neglect and cruelty.

Aveion Lewis originally was reported kidnapped, but his body was found in a Roanoke County two weeks later.

Prosecutors and police say Lewis was not treated in the weeks before his death for a broken arm and burns.
