Murder trial in Md. school shooting
A former Frostburg State University student is headed for trial in Cumberland on a first-degree murder charge.
Twenty-one-year-old Tyrone Hall of Glen Burnie is claiming self-defense in the April shotgun slaying of 20-year-old Brandon Carroll of Waldorf and the wounding of 21-year-old Ellis Hartridge Jr. of Washington.
Both victims were on the school basketball team.
Hall claims he fired his 12-gauge shotgun as the men lunged at him at his off-campus apartment during a dispute over a woman.
Jury selection was scheduled for Tuesday morning, with opening statements expected in the afternoon.
Court records indicate that Hartridge was involved with a woman who had had a physical altercation with Hall earlier that night.
