Va. woman faces bigamy charge
A Virginia woman is facing trial on bigamy and other charges.
The Daily Press reports that 71-year-old Shirley Smith-Smart's trial is scheduled for Wednesday in Isle of Wight, Va., Circuit Court. Smart, a Gloucester resident, also is charged with forgery and perjury.
The charges stem from Smart's marriage to Elden Bowen, who remains her legal husband. Bowen is the eighth of Smart's 10 spouses.
Prosecutor Wayne Farmer says Smart faces from to two to 10 years in prison and a $100,000 fine if convicted of bigamy.
