District man shot dead in Capitol Heights

A District man was shot to death sometime after his car was spotted leaving a Capitol Heights nightclub early Monday morning, police said.

Ricardo Eugene Ray, 18, was leaving the Mad Chef Cafe in the 7900 block of Central Avenue at about 3 a.m. when another vehicle pulled alongside his a short distance from the club, police said.

Shots rang out, police said, and officers later found Ray in the car and suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Police had initially said only that Ray was found shot outside the club. They changed that account later, saying that initial reports did not make clear that witnesses saw the car leaving the club.

When will the county force the Mad Chef Cafe to stop hosting go gos after hours? They've brought nothing but crime to an otherwise quiet strip.

I don't go to Capitol Heights any more. Too many bad experiences with the locals.

Those aged 18-20 are also adults and not "kids" or "teens", meaning they shouldn't be called those terms. Although more security can be more of annoyance, there should be more security in the parking lot of Mad Chef Cafe.

We can't even get Capitol Heights straightened out, but we're going to solve all of the problems in Iraq, and Afghanistan.

Might I add Mr. nativeva1, that you don't know the race of the perpetrator of this crime. You are assuming, like you do in all of your racist posts.

Youth violence doesn't happen in a vacuum. We, the ADULTS create the society that these kids come up in. Once we stopped setting the rules, enforcing the rules and most importantly LIVING by the rules, they started their own. They aren't martians from another world, they are of our own doing.

We are just as responsible for this mess as our forefathers were for battling Jim Crow/Segregation, etc. They put us in a better position and we have put our children in a worse position because we think that gated community living and material wealth matters more.

So while our kids have all the X-Boxes and Laptops and PDA's and $200 jeans, they lack basic decency. And while some are offended by that and yes, it is not ALL of us, that hardly matters now, does it?

We're all in it whether we like it or not and we're all at risk from this behaviour that WE have allowed to flourish. We are at fault for the mess our kids are in and no amount of Government intervention will fix this...WE have to.
