One dead in afternoon Oxon Hill double shooting
Two men were shot, one fatally, in the Oxon Hill area Wednesday afternoon. A school nearby was briefly placed on lockdown while police searched for suspects, authorities said.
The incident occurred just before 12:30 p.m. in the 5200 block of Indian Head Highway near the Eastover Shopping Center and the Prince George's County Police Department's District IV station, police said. Two men were shot in that area and transported to a nearby hospital; one died, and the other sustained serious injuries, police said.
Mike Thomen, who manages a pawnshop in the area, said he heard about seven gunshots, and then saw a man sprint past his store window. He said he later learned the man had been shot.
Nearby Forest Heights Elementary School was briefly placed on lockdown "as a precaution," said Cpl. Erica Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Prince George's County Police Department.
Police were searching for a 15-passenger white van and multiple suspects who might be connected to the incident, Johnston said.
