Firearms charge for Pr. William man who accidentally shot woman
A Woodbridge man who was practicing loading and unloading his shotgun Thursday afternoon accidentally discharged the gun, hitting a woman who was on a deck outside a neighbor's house, police said.
Police charged Anthony Michael Randall, 48, of the 17000 block of Hampstead Ridge Court, with reckless handling of a firearm. He was released on $2,500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on April 21.
Prince William County police said Randall was "practicing" with the gun in his home at about 12:30 p.m when he accidentally fired a round of buckshot.
The shot went through his wall, though a neighbor's wall, out a back window and hit a woman who was on a back deck, police said.
The woman, 42, suffered wounds that were not life-threatening. Police said Friday that she was held in the hospital overnight after being struck by a single buckshot pellet.
Ranall, noticing the angle of the shot, immediately went next door to see if the woman was okay. Three other adults in the neighbor's house were not injured. The woman was flown to an area hospital as a precaution, said Officer Jonathan Perok, a Prince William County police spokesman.
