Va. man charged with drunk driving
A 19-year-old Leesburg man who allegedly was driving drunk when his SUV struck some trees Saturday has been charged with felony child endangerment, and police said a 4-year-old girl was in a car seat that had not been properly installed.
Loudoun County Sheriff's officials said Luis Esquivel Mandujano was driving on Route 7 east of Belmont Ridge Road in Ashburn when he lost control of his 1998 Chevrolet Blazer and it veered into the median and struck the trees.
Passengers Matias Bonillam, 27, and Miriam Reyes, 41, both of Landover, were ejected from the vehicle, authorities said. Bonillam was flown to INOVA Fairfax with serious injuries. Reyes was taken to INOVA Lansdowne with non-life-threatening injuries. Reyes’ four-year-old daughter was flown to INOVA Fairfax Hospital with serious injuries.
Mandujano, who also was injured in the crash, initially was charged with DUI and driving without a license, authorities said. The felony child endangerment charge was added Wednesday.
Sheriff's officials said Mandujano is being held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center on a detainer from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
