Man, child injured in Hyattsville apartment fire
A 35-year-old man was badly burned and a 5-year-old girl suffered smoke inhalation in a Friday morning fire at a Hyattsville apartment complex, officials said.
Shortly before 9 a.m., firefighters were alerted to the blaze at a garden apartment unit in the 3200 block of Toledo Place by someone in the rental office who saw smoke and called 911, according to Maj. Tyrone Forby, a Prince George’s County Fire Department spokesman.
Forby said firefighters entering the second-floor unit found the critically injured man, who had suffered burns over about 80 percent of his body. They also rescued the girl, who did not appear to be burned. Both were taken to area hospitals.
Forby said the fire was contained to the unit, and that investigators were working to determine how it started.
