Ex-Howard police chief Walters dies
Former Howard County Police Chief G. Russell Walters died Jan. 13 at the age of 92, the department announced Wednesday.
Walters, who was chief between 1969 and 1975, also spent 23 years with the Maryland State Police.
While Walters was chief, the department grew significantly: It more than doubled its number of officers, saw its budget increase from $660,000 to $2.6 million, and broke ground on a station that is now county police headquarters.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Laurel. Burial will follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park in Elkridge.
