Laser pointers in Ocean City's spotlight

Officials in Ocean City are set to enact new, stricter regulations for laser pointers after an explosion in popularity.

The Ocean City Council is looking to ban youths under 18 from buying or possessing the pointers and requiring vendors explain it is illegal to shine them on others.

The city council will meet Monday at 6 p.m. to discuss emergency legislation tightening restrictions on the laser pointers.

Green-colored laser pointers have become increasingly popular in the last six weeks, with police saying that vendors on the city's boardwalk have sold about 30,000 so far this summer.

The town enacted a ban on shining laser pointers on others in 1998 when red laser pointer pens became a nuisance. State lawmakers passed an identical law.

In Fairfax County, a man recently found himself charged with jeopardizing a police crew's safety after allegedly turning a laser pointer on a police search helicopter.

Yep...Something else to arrest kids for!!! America is officially a Police State.

Hey I have an idea - Why don't the cops try 'talking' to the kids – like they used too.

These days we have punks like the poster above that want somebody to lockup kids/others because their not man (or woman) enough to handle the situation own his own.

That's America today (learned behavior from the Republican types), chicken-hawks, always going for bad, as long as others do the dirty work. And it seems that the only people that are interested in this type of police work these days are losers that want a gun and badge so they can legally assault others. Like the manly woman we all see on TV that goes over and kicks a suspect that’s on the ground, hand-cuffed with a 200 pound knee in his neck. They truly disgust me.

Meanwhile punks want to get more and more of ‘our’ rights away. Republicans stole most of our rights with the Patriot Act and set the Supreme Court to take away even more – while telling the sheep to be scare of the complacent Black Guy in the White House. And still the punks can not wait to give up more of our rights. They never even questioned the car seat-belt or motorcycle helmet laws – do you REALLY thinks that cops love you so much that they will ticket you just to keep you safe? But be scare of the Black Guy – morons…

laser pointers? has there been an upsurge in middle-school aged tourists recently?

Hey Question-Guy. If those parents were able to talk to their kids in the first place, we would not be having such a problem. Parents aren't parents anymore, they are friends with their children now.
