Man arrested in Montgomery hotel robberies

A Montgomery Village man was arrested Wednesday after officers who had stopped to help a motorist with a broken-down vehicle determined that the car matched the description of a vehicle used in two recent hotel robberies.

Johnnie A. Duvall, 45, of the 990 block of Tambay Court was charged with two counts of strong-arm robbery and one count of armed robbery in three hotel robberies in Montgomery County since Dec. 23.

In the first incident, a man entered the lobby of the Comfort Inn at 16216 North Frederick Rd. in Rockville about 2:50 a.m., approached a desk clerk, implied that he had a weapon and demanded money, police said. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, the suspect fled in a gold-colored Mazda.

On Tuesday, about 11:20 p.m., officers responded to the Holiday Inn at 2 Montgomery Village Ave. in Gaithersburg after a reported armed robbery. A man had entered the hotel lobby, assaulted the lone male employee and demanded cash. After obtaining an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled in a gold-colored Mazda, police said.

A similar robbery occurred about 2:15 a.m. Wednesday at the Courtyard Marriott at 2500 Research Blvd. in Rockville, with another male clerk assaulted and money taken, police said.

Shortly after that robbery, officers stopped to assist a man with his stalled car on Shady Grove Road in Gaithersburg. When officers learned that the car matched the description of the getaway vehicle in two of the hotel robberies, they obtained a warrant for Duvall’s arrest.

He is being held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center and is scheduled for a bond review this afternoon.

I didn't know that hotels carry any type of substantial cash. Most if not all the transactions are done with credit cards. On another note, why are criminals so d@mn ugly?

I think you've got this fellow confused with Harry Reid who is, by all definitions, another mother as well as a relative.

Tough guy trying to look all bad & hard. Probably dropped out of the 4th grade when the school work started to get too difficult for him. Sterilize the punk. Then cut the punk's hands off. Then you don't need to spend money keeping the punk in prison. Coz you know he'll be going back & forth ad infinitum. I blame his mother & the mother of all thugs. Why didn't you have an abortion? We got enough bad people in this area. We don't need any more.
