Md. family faces charges after 83-year-old bedridden woman's death

Prosecutors in Wicomico County, Md., say members of a Fruitland family charged with abusing an 83-year-old bedridden woman could face additional charges after the elderly woman died.

Officials say that the woman died at Peninsula Regional Medical Center on Tuesday and that her body has been taken to the state medical examiner's office for an autopsy.

Wicomico County Assistant State's Attorney Liz Ireland said that if the death is determined to have resulted from severe neglect, the state might consider more charges.

The woman's husband, George Baker, daughters Amy Davis and Sherry Mundy and granddaughter Michelle Hundley were charged last month with adult abuse and reckless endangerment.

The investigation began in January, when hospital staff reported that the woman was malnourished, neglected and had sores all over her body.
