Matt Zapotosky

D.C. police arrested a 16-year-old boy Wednesday in the slaying of a Capitol Heights man who was shot to death Friday as he cleaned up property in Southeast Washington, authorities said.

Javon Hale, of Capitol Heights, was charged as an adult with felony murder in the slaying of Manuel D. Sanchez, 29, of Capitol Heights, police said.

Sanchez was shot to death just after 2 p.m. Friday in the rear of an apartment house in the 4600 block of Hillside Road SE, where he was with a crew of people hired for a cleanup, police have said.

The site is between Benning and Ridge Roads, east of Fort Dupont Park.

what's the predicate felony he's charged with, if it's a felony murder charge?

Motive was either robbery or racism, or both.

Impulse. It doesn't take much of a motive with these type of people to kill. It's a violent and vicious culture.

*******************************************

Nowhere in the article does it say the suspect is fatherless. George-the-Beast is a rich psycho with a father and a stepfather who beat his petite girlfriend, Yeardley, to death with his bare hands. Would you have made the same assumption about him -- that he is fatherless -- before actually finding out he has a father and a stepfather?

I don't condone what this 16 year old suspect is accused of doing, but your stereotype is just that ... a stereotype.

The authorities need to show these youngsters that this violence will not be tolerated and get serious with the punishment. No matter what reason this kid had for killing that man, put him in prison for the rest of his life. At sixteen, he will enjoy a miserable existence and this might be a reality check for other teens thinking about killing. Until they know that taking someone's life means life in prison without possibility of parole, they will continue acting like this is 1800s wild west.
