Body found in SUV in Gaithersburg: Police

Matt Zapotosky

Major crimes detectives in Montgomery County are investigating the death of a man whose body was discovered Monday night in an SUV in the Gaithersburg area, authorities said.

Just before 10 p.m., officers were called to a parking lot in the 800 block of Clopper Road for the report of someone dead in a Ford Explorer parked there, authorities said.

Investigators determined that the 39-year-old man had spent time with friends Sunday evening, and the SUV was spotted in the parking lot early Monday morning. A person checked it about 9 p.m. Monday and called police, authorities said.

Police said it remains unclear how the man died; his body was went to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.

Five officers who responded to the scene had to be treated and released at a local hospital after apparently being sickened by gasoline fumes coming from the SUV, authorities said.
