D.C. police shoot, wound suspect

A D.C. police officer shot and wounded a suspect who was involved in a domestic incident Thursday afternoon during what authorities described as a "confrontation" between the suspect and officers.

Officer Tisha Gant, a D.C. police spokeswoman, said two officers were initially dispatched to the 3400 block of 24th Street SE just after 11:30 a.m. for the report of someone being disorderly. Once they arrived, Gant said, "they realized they had a domestic case," and they were confronted by a male suspect.

One of the officers produced a gun and shot the suspect during the confrontation, said Officer Paul Metcalf, another D.C. police spokesman. The suspect was transported to the hospital with injuries not believed to be life threatening. The officers were not hurt.

Gant and Metcalf declined to release any more details about the confrontation.

Rosa Powell, 71, who lives just down the street, said she heard what sounded like two gunshots, then a woman yell "Oh my God!" She said she looked out her window to see police rushing to the scene, and paramedics later took a man away in an ambulance.

"It's so sad to see things like this," Powell said. "Just want to keep the peace in this neighborhood here."

You'd have peace if there were no men in the world.

Why don't DC police have tazers to use instead of deadly force? The story doesn't say why the police thought it was necessary to shoot the man.

I'm a man, doofus. Most of the violence/killing in the world is done by men.

I invite you to prove me wrong.

I'm a man, PZ007. Most of the violence/killing in the world is done by men. Is it not?

ANY man beating on a woman, if that is the case, needs a real warning shot (pun intended) to let him know to ceast and desist. I wish more cops "wounded" idiots like him to let him know how much it hurts when violence is brought on others. Now to the story within the story.... DC cops intervened and only WOUNDED a suspect INSTEAD OF KILLING HIM. Believe me when I say, it's a step up!!!
