Md. inmate at large after fleeing pre-release unit

Police in Southern Maryland are searching for a Waldorf man who fled from a pre-release prison facility in Charlotte Hall Friday and remains at large, authorities said.
Michael Anthony Toye, 20, was serving a three-year sentence for drug distribution and larceny. He was being escorted to the visitation area at the Southern Maryland Pre-Release Unit when he suddenly ran toward Oaks Road, authorities said.

Because the pre-release unit is designed for inmates at the end of their sentence, no locked barrier separated Toye from the outside, authorities said.
Toye was able to elude two corrections officers giving chase, said authorities, and those officers spotted a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
Anyone with information about Toye is asked to call the Maryland State Police's La Plata barrack at (301) 392-1200. A retake warrant for his arrest has been issued.
