Arrest in violent Suitland robbery

Prince George's County police on Monday arrested the man suspected of violently snatching a purse from a 71-year-old woman, causing her to fall and break her kneecap at a Suitland cigarette shop, authorities said.

A District III community police officer on routine patrol spotted 32-year-old Jonah Salih-Khalil Iman about a mile from the Cigarette Discount store in the 5700 block of Silver Hill Road -- where the crime occurred on Feb. 25, said Maj. George Nader, commander of the District III station.

Nader said the officer recognized Iman from photographs the department had distributed and took him into custody without incident.

Iman tried to shield his face when he saw the officer but did not run, Nader said.

Nader said that closing the case was particularly important to District III detectives because of "the victim's age, the violence involved and then the fact that this occurred in broad daylight."

Police had said previously that Iman entered the Cigarette Discount store just before 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 25 posing as a customer and grabbed the victim's purse, which was slung over her shoulder.

The woman fell, breaking her kneecap and finger and bruising her ribs, police had said. Nader said the injuries were so severe the woman had to be hospitalized for a few days. "It was pretty violent," he said.

Nader said tips from Suitland residents -- along with witnesses and video surveillance footage -- helped detectives connect Iman to the purse snatching. He said detectives are exploring whether Iman, of Suitland, might be responsible for similar crimes in the area, and he urged residents with information to come forward as they did in this case.

"It wouldn't have been possible without the help of the community," Nader said of the arrest.

Once convicted, he should be immediatly hauled outside, put up against a wall, and shot. Savages deserve NO mercy. Kill this animal subhuman.

He's not only vicious, violent and stupid, he's also ugly. Well it's pleasant surprise that tips led to his arrest. Because typically in those neighborhoods they go by the mantra of "snitches get stiches."

Now he's somebody that when he gets in jail that needs some "steel" pushed up in and the handle broken off.

Keep cooperating with the police. You may need their help some day when one of your neighborhood "bruthas" beats you up, steals from you or rapes you.
