Homicide charges in July St. Mary's crash

A Hollywood man was indicted Friday on homicide and drunk driving charges in connection with a head-on crash in July that killed a Tall Timbers man and critically injured his wife, authorities said.
George Michael Bowes Jr., 31, was the driver of a dual-wheel pickup truck that swerved out of the northbound lane on Piney Point Road in Valley Lee and collided head-on with a 2009 Audi A4 on July 25, police said.
The collision killed the Audi's driver, 58-year-old Russell Edward Wenzel, and critically injured his wife, Melissa Anne Wenzel, also 58, police said.
On Friday, Bowes was arrested and charged with homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol and other related counts in connection with the crash.
He was released from the St. Mary’s County Detention Center the same day after posting $100,000 bond, police said. Phone messages left for him and his family members were not immediately returned.
The incident, reported on by local news sources, sparked significant online chatter speculating that Bowes might have been drunk.
