Slain woman in Landover identified

Matt Zapotosky

Police have identified the woman whose remains were found in a trash dumpster in the Landover area in July, and they are investigating the case as a homicide, authorities said.

Just before 2 p.m. on July 24, police and fire officials were called to the 1700 block of Brightseat Road for the report of a foul odor emanating from a trash dumpster. They arrived to find a decomposing human body inside and initiated a death investigation, authorities said.

Using fingerprints, police identified the woman as 24-year-old Nicole Thompson, of the 1800 block of Andrews Avenue in New York. They suspect she was killed. A law enforcement source said Thompson died of asphyxiation.

Cpl. Henry Tippett, a police spokesman, said investigators have no suspects or motives in her death, and they are still exploring what connection she may have had to Prince George’s County.
