Woman critically injured in Ft. Washington crash
A 23-year-old woman was critically injured early Tuesday morning in a fiery single-car crash in the Fort Washington area of Prince George's County, authorities said.
Laura Gomez, of Fort Washington, was traveling east on Swan Creek Road near Hollybank Drive in a Mazda Miata when she failed to negotiate a curve, said Cpl. Erica Johnson, a Prince George's County Police spokesman.
Gomez veered off the roadway and struck a tree, Johnson said. Johnson initially said the woman had died. Cpl. Henry Tippett, another police spokesman, said Wednesday night that she was critically injured but remained alive in critical condition.
Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in causing the crash, Johnson said.
