Md. shooting suspect remains held

The Gaithersburg man charged with attempted murder Thursday after authorities said he opened fire on a police officer remains held without bond at the Montgomery County Detention Center, police said Friday.

Phillip A. Watson, 31, was charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and other counts.

Police identified the officer who returned fire as Brian Grimes, a four-year veteran of the Gaithersburg department.

He has been placed on administrative leave, as is standard practice after police shootings.
