Police ID Germantown collision victim
Montgomery County police released more details on an early morning fatal collision in the Germantown area.
Shortly before 5 a.m. Monday, a 2008 red Honda Civic, driven by Kirsten Danielle Mergner, 18, of Damascus, was traveling north on Ridge Road. For reasons still under investigation, the Honda crossed the center lines of Ridge Road.
Heading south at the time was a 2006 Ford Explorer driven by Jill Yvette Gole, 50, of Mt. Airy. The vehicles collided.
Mergner, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Gole, who apparently was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Suburban Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.
Conditions at the time were icy, windy, and below freezing, police said. Their investigation continues. Police ask anyone who may have seen the wreck to call 301-840-2435.
