Man charged in three Md. robberies

A Bethesda has been charged in three armed robberies, and detectives suspect he committed as many as 12 others in recent months in Montgomery County and the District, officials said Wednesday.

In one of the heists -- on May 30 along Bayard Boulevard in Bethesda -- he pulled up to a victim as the victim was getting of a cab shortly after 3 a.m., according to an arrest affidavit.

The suspect got out of his car, displayed a silver handgun and demanded money. When the victim said he had none, the suspect got back into his car and chased down the cab, which crashed. The suspect pointed his gun at two remaining passengers and got $220 from them, according to the affidavits.

Charged in the ongoing investigation is James Willie Street, 29, of the 5400 block of Westbard Avenue. He was being held Wednesday on $150,000 and $750,000 bonds in the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, according to a jail official.
