Montgomery County police detectives are trying to determine the identity of a man who was critically injured when he was struck by an SUV in Silver Spring Sunday night.

Police said the man is Hispanic and between 30 and 40 years old. He is 5 foot 2 and weighs about 130 pounds. At the time of the collision he was wearing a black baseball cap, a white t-shirt, blue jeans, and tan work boots.

The crash occurred about 10 p.m. in the 12200 block of Veirs Mill Road, police said. Officials said a 2001 Chevrolet Tracker traveling east on Veirs Mill near Randolph Road struck the man.

The driver, Hector Ventura, 36, of the 4200 block of Olney-Laytonsville Road in Olney, was not injured.

The pedestrian is in critical condition at Suburban Hospital, police said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the man's identity or the crash is asked to call the police Collision Reconstruction Unit at 301-840-2435.
