Short Md. suspect eludes capture

Positioned atop Montgomery County's list of most-wanted suspects, Henry Chavez is on his way to becoming the most well-known of the most-wanted.

The notoriety comes from his size, 3-foot, 11-inches tall, 85 pounds, and raises the question: How can someone so distinctive be so difficult to find?

"I actually think it makes it harder," says U.S. Marshal Robert Fernandez, commander of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Chavez, suspected in a first-degree murder from a May 27 fatal shooting in Silver Spring, knows he can't easily blend in with others, Fernandez said, so he is likely taking extra precautions.

If the 28-year-old is moving around, he could be doing so at night, and if he is getting in and out of cars, he could be doing so inside garages, Fernandez said.

And he may have left the area.

"He has to make a conscious effort to hide himself," Fernandez said. "He knows he's going to stand out."

The search is being led by Montgomery County police, but they have received assistance from the marshals, Fernandez said.

Chavez is accused of shooting Hamington Luis Ravanales Orozco, 27. In Montgomery County court records from an earlier case, he said he was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in the Mount Pleasant area.

He is considered "armed and extremely dangerous," Fernandez said.

Montgomery police say they want to hear from anyone who knows where Chavez might be, or knows what locations he has gone to in the past. They say people can call 240-773-5070, and those wishing to remain anonymous can call 1-866-411-TIPS.

Why do they come to this country and kill one another when they just could have stayed at home? It's about time we Arizonalize Montgomery County.

In Montgomery County court records from an earlier case, he said he was born in Washington D.C. and grew up in the Mount Pleasant area.

If he was born in Washington Dc & grew up in the Mt Pleasent area, that makes him a US Citizen.

I may agree with you, in wanting to Arizonize Monkey County, and the region as a whole, but to make such a statement, based solely on his appearance & his name, is discriminaztion, and is against the law!

Heh, the blog police are out today. Watch out or they'll get you!

But seriously, an armed murderer out there with a napoleon complex. The guy he shot was probably teasing him about his height. Hey, I would laugh if I saw him too.

I've seen him out in the clubs before and the only thing he looked like he could kill was my kneecap. I see now that killers come in all sizes.
