Upper Marlboro man killed on Beltway
A 21-year-old Upper Marlboro man was struck and killed on the inner loop of the Capital Beltway late Saturday after he got out of his disabled vehicle.
The victim's brother, who had remained in the vehicle's passenger seat, was seriously injured.
Maryland State Police said David Callahan and his brother Daniel, 19, were stopped in a lane near Landover Road, apparently because of engine trouble. David was on the pavement when another vehicle struck him and his car.
David was taken to Prince George's Hospital Center, where he died. Daniel was flown by helicopter to Maryland Shock Trauma Center, where he was in serious but stable condition.
The other driver was not injured, and no charges were filed. The inner loop was closed for about an hour during an investigation.
