Suspect in Manassas slaying arrested

A man suspected in a 2008 fatal stabbing outside a Manassas strip mall was arrested in New York in an unrelated case, police said Friday.

Authorities had been searching for Edgardo Aquino Castro, 35, who is accused in the Aug. 31, 2008, slaying of Carlos Roas-Escalante, Manassas police said. Roas-Escalante, 24, was killed in a mall parking lot in the 9600 block of Grant Avenue.

At the time, witnesses said they saw a fight break out between Roas-Escalante and another man before Roas-Escalante fell to the ground and the other man fled, police said. The month after the slaying, warrants were issued charging Castro with murder and robbery.

Castro was arrested Jan. 20 in New York. He is awaiting extradition to Virginia.
