Md. escapee caught with gun

Maryland State Police say an escapee from the maximum-security Western Correctional Institution near Cumberland was carrying a loaded, .22-caliber handgun when he was caught.

Trooper First Class Jason Langley tells the Cumberland Times-News that Kevin Corcoran broke into an unoccupied home in Potomac Park after walking away from a minimum-security work detail Tuesday morning.

Langley says Corcoran stole the gun, ammunition, alcohol and prescription medicine. He says Corcoran also fired a shot into a wall before walking into the nearby woods, where he was caught without incident Tuesday afternoon.

Corcoran has been charged with burglary, theft and illegal possession of drugs and a firearm.

He was serving a 10-year sentence for a robbery conviction in Anne Arundel County.
