Pr. George's man convicted in slaying
A Prince George’s County jury convicted a Hyattsville man Friday of murder in the slaying of another young man in a dispute over the use of a car, State’s Attorney Glenn F. Ivey said.
Jerome D. Proctor, 26, was convicted of second-degree murder and using a handgun in a crime of violence. Proctor fatally shot Sean E. Smith, 25, of Landover Hills in the early hours of June 18, authorities said.
Before Proctor shot Smith, the two men had been arguing about Proctor having used Smith’s car without his permission, prosecutors said.
Circuit Court Judge Michael P. Whalen scheduled sentencing for June 16. Proctor faces a possible maximum sentence of 50 years in prison.
