Life in prison for Pr. George's murderer

A Landover man who was convicted in January of first-degree murder -- after having been previously acquitted of two separate murders -- has been sentenced to life in prison, State's Attorney Angela A. Alsobrooks said.

Circuit Court Judge C. Philip Nichols Jr. imposed the sentence Friday on Jacob L. Brooks, 21. In January, a Circuit Court jury convicted Brooks of murdering Daryl T. Clark, 36, on Nov. 3, 2008.

Nichols also sentenced Brooks to 20 years in prison for using a handgun in the commission of a felony, and five years in prison for a handgun violation. All of the sentenced are to be served concurrently.

Clark was shot three times while he was walking his dog in the 1800 block of Cedarwood Court in Hyattsville. At the time of the killing, police said Clark was the victim of a robbery attempt.

Four days after Clark was killed, Brooks was arrested for carjacking a woman in Landover. Police found the gun used to kill Clark in the stolen Pontiac Grand Prix, according to testimony from Brooks's trial for killing Clark. Brooks was convicted of armed carjacking, and is serving 23 years in prison for that crime.

In 2007, two different juries acquitted Brooks of murder in two separate trials.

In one trial, Brooks was acquitted of first-degree murder in the 2005 slaying of Lakita Danielle Tolson, 19, who was shot to death outside a Temple Hills nightclub.

Also in 2007, a jury acquitted Brooks of the 2006 killing of a longtime friend, Eric S. Holland. Prosecutors accused Brooks of killing Holland, who was 18, because Holland was cooperating with police in the investigation of the Tolson murder.

Can't we just terminate the punk with extreme prejudice? Why does the public have to foot the bill for his "life in prison" sentence? His Moms probably wouldn't mind. Too bad she didn't have an abortion.

Doing 23 years for the carjacking and then will start his life sentence...too bad they didn't catch him earlier...This thug beating those other murder charges and still committing murder shows he needed every year in jail he has been sentenced to...

Just a shame...at 21 I'm sure he showed many signs of his behavior early on in life...so many young boys need help and this is what they turn into down the road...

Let's see ... 21 years old, $60,000 in tax dollars a year to support him, for, say 60 years ... that's $3.6 million !!!

You happy with that, taxpayers?

Surely where he'll do the time there's a handy stairway that he might fall down ... backwards ... accidentally, of course.

Teenage girls need to stop having kids. They're too immature to raise children properly. Especially boys. They can't handle it. Kids run wild. Recipe for disaster.

Of course this doesn't take away the fact that the boy/young man HAS to be responsible for his actions. The criminal life usually ends in early death or many years in prison. No such thing as "easy money."

We need the death penalty activated. Forget lethal injections and electrocute the bastard.

Good job,but too bad there is no consideration of the death penalty in this case.Steralization should be mandatory for all welfare recipients so scum like this don't get a chance to breed!

This young man walked around our neighborhood like any innocent young black man would but was busy right outside of the neighborhood carjacking and shooting people at an intersection that many in the neighborhood use on a daily basis. It could have been one of us.

And the other young black men in the neighborhood always smile, speak, and ACT respectful while some were right with this jerk as he committed his crimes.

It's hard to trust ANYONE in our black communities. Those that I've known that have opened themselves up to someone all were eventually taken advantage of in some form or fashion. It's a shame.

And the bible says love thy neighbor. PLEASE. In the black community it's more like keep your neighbor at bay if you don't want any drama.

Yet another reason (as if we needed more) to protect a woman's right to have an abortion. Not only ONE wasted life (the killer), but at least 3 others as well. On top of that, we will pay for his shelter and 3 square meals a day for the rest of his pointless life, when we can't even afford to keep our schools staffed and standing.

And then you wonder why the Tea Party exists...

I see here that a lot of you people are mad that as tax payers you have to pay for this man to be locked up. Well, why don't you just not pay your state or federal taxes and see where you will end up at. Or just let him stay at your house for the rest of your life.

Thats a dumb statement considering he was not aborted nor can we determine during pregnancy which kids will turn our to be Nobel price winners and which will turn out to be charles manson while they are in the womb. And crime does not justify any political group. People say dumb things on web blogs. I guess its because they dont have to worry about being pointed out as the idiot.
