4 months for Va. man in fiancee's death
A Stafford County man has been sentenced to four months in jail on charges stemming from the accidental shooting of his fiancee during a hunt club outing.
Authorities say 29-year-old Forrest David Matthews Jr. accidentally shot and killed 27-year-old Carrie Lee Loving on Dec. 12.
Matthews and Loving were among about 40 hunters who participated in the event on private property off State Route 218 in King George County.
Matthews was sentenced Thursday in King George Circuit Court to a total 24 months in jail, with 20 months suspended. He had pleaded guilty earlier to assault and battery and reckless handling of a firearm.
