2007 D.C. assault becomes homicide

A badly injured D.C. assault victim from 2007 passed away recently, and detectives are now investigating the case as a homicide, officials said Thursday.

On June 30, 2007, at about 3:30 a.m., Demetrius Ormon Dempsey was found in the 200 block of 54th Street NE suffering from blunt force trauma .

"The victim remained in hospitals and nursing facilities for the remainder of his life," D.C. police said in a statement Thursday.

He died Dec. 13. His body was taken the to the D.C. Medical Examiners Office. On Monday, his death was ruled a homicide resulting from complications of blunt force trauma, police said.

Police ask anyone with information to call (202) 727-9099 or 1-888-919-CRIME (1-888-919-2746). A reward of up to $25,000 is possible.
