D.C. man, 18, charged in son's death

By David P. Marino-Nachison

D.C. police have charged an 18-year-old man with first-degree murder in the death of his 7-week-old son.

On Monday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Hiawatha Henry, charging him in the Aug. 29, 2009, death of Hiawatha Jackson.

On that date, police said, officers went to the 1800 block of Bryant Street NE at 3:35 p.m. to investigate a report of an unconscious person.

They found the baby unconscious, police said, and emergency personnel took him to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

An autopsy ruled the death a homicide, police said.

This is very sad to read, just another reminder that many young parents aren't ready to be parents.

Very a 70yr old guy who grew up in DC I can remember when condoms were only placed BEHIND the counters and you had to ask for them.....

Today, condoms and all kinds of birth controll products are available for both men and women...but teens continue to have unprotected sex...I understand being a youth as I have done this before but for women today to not reallize the consequences of having a baby at 16-17 confounds me...the dads don't stick around and they end up being the sole parent...

Someone please protect young women from guys who really don't care about kids or being responsible for creating them...where is the GUILT????? or shame???

yes this is a shame! how do u not think about the innocence of those who cant fight for themselves, whats wromg with those who abuse their kids yet you set back while this kid took the life of another! who do we blame???? blame those you know that he was cappable of this. You knew he could do this thats the bad part because he has hurt before so dont think twice to look in his face an say you did this,if his moterwas an abuser than the apple didnt fall far from the tree.............
