Guilty plea for man shot near U.S. Capitol
A man who was shot by U.S. Capitol Police officers after approaching them with a gun has pleaded guilty in the case.
John Wesley Wheeler Jr. of Suitland, Md., pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Washington on Wednesday.
Wheeler acknowledged in court that he ran toward an officer sitting in a police car near the U.S. Capitol in the early hours of Sept. 17, pointing a gun in the car's direction.
After the officer sped away, Wheeler approached two other officers in the area and was shot. Wheeler told a judge he is taking medication for depression and schizophrenia.
He pleaded guilty to assaulting, resisting, or impeding the officers.
Wheeler will be sentenced on May 19.
