Officer maced at Ballou High School

A student sprayed a D.C police officer with mace and a security guard was bitten during an altercation with a student Thursday morning at Ballou High School in Southeast.

The incident happened at 9:30 a.m. when a Ballou student with warrants out for his arrest arrived at the school's main student entrance, according to Lt. Renato Caldwell of the D.C. police school safety division.

A police officer tried to arrest the student as he walked through a magnetometer, and the student fought back.

Police believe the student sprayed mace, Caldwell said, though they were not sure if it was the student's own. The student also bit a school security officer on the arm. The student and the police officer were taken to a hospital and treated for mace exposure; the security officer was treated for the bite.

The student, who Caldwell said was wanted for a probation violation in Virginia and another charge he did not disclose, would be charged with assaulting a police officer "and some other charges." The incident is still under investigation, he said.

About a dozen police cars were parked outside of the school at 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

The incident appeared to have taken place at a secondary entrance to the school, behind a set of sturdy blue doors.

Hope the 'student' gets a very harsh sentence.Spraying mace at an officer in a school with other students present is inexcusable conduct!

This kid is behaving like a feral animal. What kind of an environment and upbringing can change a human into a wild being?

Yes, Obama is wrong for not sending his kids to DC public schools. He is such a snob.

Give that kid an "A" for effort! Police are often rude, abusive and they over step the bounds of the constitution on a regular basis when dealing wtih certain members of the public...

May I ask why the young man was arrested inside the school? Could that not have put other students in danger?

Because he could not be lo0cated at any type of stable address and the school was the best place to find him. How does that put other students in danger? There are arrests all day long in DC schools. You are reading about this one because the officer was sprayed.

LOL what a pair, attacking a police officer after you try to boldly saunter into a school where obviously they don't want you.

classic case of a kid needing a wood shampoo.
