Woman, 21, shot dead in D.C.
A 21-year-old woman from the Columbia Heights area of Northwest Washington was found fatally shot Saturday in Southeast Washington, police said.
Police said the victim was found about 3:30 a.m. in the 2700 block of Bruce Place SE.
Her mother identified her as Ashley McRae, and police said she lived in the 1300 block of Columbia Road.
Deborah McRae said she did not know what led to the shooting, but described her daughter as “a sweetheart.”
“Everybody loved her,” Deborah McRae said.
She said her daughter was working at a clothing store in Georgetown, and was studying accounting at DeVry University.
Police said they were called to Bruce Place after a woman was reported shot. The address is just southeast of Fort Stanton Park.
After the woman was found in a vehicle, police said, she was taken by D.C. fire and emergency services personnel to George Washington University Hospital. She was admitted there, police said, but subsequently died.
Police said they offer a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to an arrest and conviction in any homicide committed in the District.

Ashley,
For the short time I knew you, I found you to be a sweet, nice, and engaging person. May the bastard who killed you die a painful, horrible death and may the jackasses who know what happened, but refuse to come forward be killed in the same way that you were.
