Youths arrested in fight at DC school

By Paul Duggan

D.C. police said about a half-dozen young people were arrested Tuesday after a fight broke out at a high school gym in Northwest Washington.

Patrol officers were called to Woodrow Wilson High School in the 4300 block of Connecticut Avenue NW about mid-morning after several teenagers began fighting, police said. They said some of the young people appeared to have suffered minor injuries.

It must have been a bunch of math geeks with pent up frustration about not being able to get into advance placement calculus?

Wilson test score are low because these same students act up during classes and testing session.

I thought Wilson HS was somewhere around Chesapeake and Nebraska in the Tenleytown area. Is there another campus in Van Ness (4300 Conn. Ave.)?

@catsrtasty, the original HS is being renovated, the little darlings have been in UDC buildings since at least the beginning of this school year.

Six people isn't a "fight", it's a "riot".

It's better that they fight at school so the principals and teachers can't say "it wasn't Wilson students" acting like animals on the metro. Now they see for themselves how wild and undisciplined these students are.

I would imagine the neighbors in the area are really pleased about the DC school systme importing a bunch of terrorist thugs. Talk about a town and gown conflict!

Not until Rhee have you ever read bad things about Wilson. What have tehy done to Wilson?

Really, back in my day Wilson was the "good" school. Everyone wasn't an angel but Wilson never had teh "BAD" kids. Wilson got rid of the truly BAD kids out that somehow got in. It's really odd to read about Wilson like this.

I'm also surprised to hear this about Wilson. When I was in school, Wilson was one of the few good high schools in the DCPS system.

Posted by: POLOinDC | February 8, 2011 6:25 PM | Report abuse

To POLOinDC, it would be a good school if the students were from the immediate area, but since they now bus students from all over DC..........Well now you figure it out!!!!!!!!!!

I live a few blocks north of Wilson, so I see the students pretty much every day. With few exceptions, they have been fine neighbors. Sure there's some over exuberance now and again, but nothing beyond what my friends and I exhibited back in the day.

I'm sure that the disput was over paternity rights.

6 comabatnts had reasonable expectations of having sired the young womans baby, and were trying to determine who the ex facto silverback would be. He'll keep the title until he realizes that claiming owner ship might entail parental responsibilities- an unknow concept in the District.

You have to learn how to fight somewhere. You can't just wake up one day & say I'm gonna be a gang member. It takes time & training.

You have to figure out who are the real wannabe thugs/tough guys. The ones that will be dropping out of high school soon & spending a good part of their life behind bars. The real soon-to-be career criminals.

The boys who are pretending to be tough to impress the silly girls aren't a threat. They're all talk no do. If the boy says something smart to a stranger & the stranger looks them in the eye & says something back, they back off. They like to pick on the weak.

In my day as they say, it was one-on-one fights in high school. No knives. Guns were unheard of. No one had ever seen one. A lot simpler back then - 30 years ago.

First of all I attend Woodrow Wilson High School and unless you were present or in attendance please do not speak on the matter... School has changed from "back in my day" and Wilson really isn't that bad of a school.
