Prayer vigil set for slain D.C. Council intern Alonte Sutton

Alonte Sutton, the D.C. Council intern who was fatally shot over the weekend, will be honored at a prayer vigil Wednesday evening, the office of Councilmember Michael A. Brown announced.

The vigil will take place where Sutton died, in the 200 block of Newcomb St. SE, at 7:45 p.m.

Sutton, 18, was a senior at Frank W. Ballou high school who worked as an intern in Brown's office and for the D.C. Council. He was weighing several college acceptances at the time of his death.

According to witnesses, he was shot Saturday after declining to give a ride to the girlfriend of a man. His body was not found until Sunday and the initial police response is the subject of an internal investigation.

For more information about the vigil, call Constituent Services Officer Carlton Terry at (202) 724-8105 or e-mail him.
