Va. teen gets 28 years in gang slaying
A Fairfax County youth who was 16 when he participated in the beating death of a rival street gang member last year was sentenced Friday to 28 years in prison. Mario Reyes, now 17, acknowledged bringing a baseball bat to Woodlawn Park in November 2009 along with a fellow member of the Mara Salvatrucha gang, Francisco Gonzalez Sanchez, who was also 16. Gonzalez had been in the Fairfax juvenile jail for malicious wounding in November 2009, with a prior conviction for malicious wounding, when he was allowed to leave with his mother for a dentist's appointment, testimony in a court hearing showed. Gonzalez did not return from the appointment.

Va. grandmother indicted in girl's death
The Fairfax County woman who allegedly dropped her two-year-old granddaughter to her death from a Tysons Corner walkway has been indicted by a Fairfax grand jury for murder. Carmela Dela Rosa, 50, was with her husband, her son, her daughter and her granddaughter, Angelyn Ogdoc, at the Tysons 1 mall on Nov. 29. Angelyn's mother, Kathlyn Ogdoc, testified in a preliminary hearing last week that the family was walking across a fifth-floor skywalk from the mall to the parking lot around 7:20 p.m. when she looked back to see her mother, Dela Rosa, picking up Angelyn.

Falls Church accident victim identified
A man who was struck and killed by a truck in a Fairfax County parking lot Thursday evening was identified Friday as Danny Robert Sullivan, 55, of the 3500 block of Moncure Avenue in the Falls Church area.

Prosecutors seek death penalty
An Ohio man, facing a murder trial next month for the 2009 slaying of an Annandale woman, is now facing the death penalty after Fairfax County prosecutors this week obtained a new indictment charging him with capital murder.
